Djenne is one of the oldest cities in Mali which is rich in culture and architecture.  Preservation of it's historical buildings is strictly enforced.  No modernization of buildings is permitted and all new buildings are contructed using mud brick and adobe.  If you are interested in architecture and history, Djenne is a definate must see during your trip to Mali.   The Great Mosque of Djenne is a world wide attraction.  It is the largest mud/adobe building in the world.  Architecs around the world admire it for its style and construction.  Djenne is located half way between Bamako and Mopti which makes it an easy stop off during your tour of Mali.
